ARC Centres of Excellence first funded in 2003, 2005 and 2007

The ARC Centres of Excellence Scheme aims to place Australia at the forefront of world research in the Government's designated areas of research priority.

ARC Centres of Excellence are only established on the basis of the excellence of the proposed research program and the excellence of the participating researchers. There must be high potential for both these factors to contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of Australia.

The Centres of Excellence application rounds are not held annually.

The ARC is strongly committed to the Centres of Excellence scheme as an ongoing feature of its investment. However, in light of the commencement of funding of a new Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security in 2007, as well as the recent completion of reviews of the 2003 cohort of Centres of Excellence and ARC Centres which resulted in the extension of funding for a number of these 2003 Centres, the ARC is not planning on conducting another full selection round under the scheme in the near future.
